Sierra Leone Adult Education Association (SLADEA)

SLADEA is Sierra Leone’s first and leading functional literacy organization accredited by the University of Sierra Leone and the Ministry of Education. It has been providing quality non-formal functional literacy and numeracy skills, as well as life skills training to groups and organizations since 1979. SLADEA has organized over 150 informal adult education and literacy circles (which reach 4,000 adults) and established six Continuing Education Centres throughout the country.

This grant builds on previous New Field funding to support literacy and numeracy education for members of 40 rural women’s groups in the Kono and Kailahun Cooperatives.
2012$65,0001 year
With this grant, SLADEA expands its adult literacy training for rural women in Kono and Kailahun and incorporates agro-ecological farming techniques into the curriculum.
2011$30,0001 year
This grant supports functional literacy for adults in Kono and Kailahun districts, with a focus on rural women.
