Kerewan Town, North Bank Region, The Gambia

Agency for the Development of Women and Children (ADWAC) was established in 1996 by young Gambians to improve rural living conditions in the North Bank division of The Gambia. ADWAC’s vision is to enable the autonomy of women and children to overcome poverty in their farming communities. ADWAC’s programs address gender-based violence, land ownership for women farmers to guarantee food security, the fight against HIV/AIDS, and education for women and girls.

2010$19,6681 year
This grant enables ADWAC to gather, analyze and present information on rural women and their organizations in the border area between the North Bank division of The Gambia and the Kolda district of Casamance. With help from a consultant, ADWAC will conduct surveys and interviews with rural women’s organizations to better understand their realities and connections after years of conflict in Casamance. It will compile a comprehensive database of these findings, and produce a report analyzing key data and learnings.
