Founded in 1980, Ashoka aims to transform civil society by supporting social entrepreneurs in the development and dissemination of innovative ideas. To spur collaborative initiatives, it connects social entrepreneurs and facilitates exchange between them. Ashoka also helps to build the infrastructure within civil societies that allows change-makers to succeed. It supports the work of over 2,000 fellows in more than 60 countries, with nearly 350 fellows in 18 African countries.

With this grant, Ashoka provides a $13,000 grant to each of the 11 Think Tank members’ organizations.

This grant enables Ashoka to identify and support rural women social entrepreneurs in Burkina Faso, Mali and Senegal to establish and lead a rural women’s think tank. Participants will develop a wide array of solutions to the challenges faced by rural women and identify relevant practices that are widely applicable. Ashoka will work with the think tank to appoint a new fellow to pursue an innovative solution for rural women. It will also provide grants and technical assistance for three regional initiatives identified by the think tank that will most impact rural women.
