Gbane Kandor Women in Development (Gbane Kandor)
Kono District, Sierra Leone

Gbane Kandor Women in Development is a large and well-established association in Kono District, Sierra Leone. Founded in 2004, the association’s membership is over 500 women in seven subgroups across eight chiefdoms bordering Guinea. Gbane Kandor’s mission is to empower rural women to achieve total emancipation from ignorance, domestic violence and poverty. Gbane Kandor’s activities include agricultural production, revolving loan schemes for income generation, and capacity building to empower women. Three years of funding from the National Accountability Group has resulted in increased food availability, a reliable revolving loans scheme, and strengthened advocacy for women’s rights and empowerment.
