Established in 2003 by a group of scientists and development actors, JINUKUN is a national network and focal point in Benin of the Coalition for the Protection of African Genetic Heritage (COPAGEN). They also promote collaboration and information exchange between rural organizations and researchers, NGOs, and professionals in Africa and worldwide.

With this grant Jinukun increases the use of agroecological practices by rural women’s groups for market gardening in Benin and the sub-region including Mali and Burkina Faso. To that end, Jinukun manages two schools for rural women to learn about and practice local production and conservation of seeds. Jinukun also collects relevant data and reviews seeds laws applicable in the sub-region of West Africa.
